Valleys-based coach operator Edwards Coaches has been crowned the best in the UK.

The family-run business, based at Llantwit Fadre, Pontypridd, took the blue ribbon Best Coach Operator title at the industry leading Route One Awards 2016 held in Birmingham.

The business, which employs 570, was set up in 1925 and is now in its fifth generation of family ownership.

Its commercial director Jason Edwards said: "We are extremely proud and honoured to be selected as winner of this highly prestigious and very much recognised award, within the coaching industry.

"The award is a true testament to all the 570 staff that work tirelessly 24/7 making sure our customers experience a safe, reliable and superb value for many transport solution."

Company overview

This year it is celebrating its 91st year in business.
It operates 260 coaches daily and employs 570.
Its fleet of coaches cover 11 million miles a year.
On average it transports 9,400 children to school each day,
It handles 80,000 coach holiday passengers a year.
Operates National Express routes from South Wales and the south west of England to London, Heathrow, Gatwick, Bradford and Rochdale.

The company is also the coach provider to some of the biggest names in Welsh sport, including the Welsh rugby and football teams, Cardiff City, ice hockey's Cardiff Devils and the professional rugby regions of the Blues, Scarlets and Dragons.
